This is testament that Marianne could take Eleanor since they always wore their watches. My Fetish is left Vs left. This match with their Left hands would decide who really is the strongest! Marianne wears a square Croton w/expansion Vs Eleanor's plain round buckle band October 7, 2002 Dear Tinadiane: This is a true story about a time in my life when my mother and I were new to our neighborhood. The year was 1965 and my mother was a stay at home Mom. In an effort to get to know the neighbors better, the women in the street got together 2-3 nights a week to socialize and get to know the families. This was popular enough for all to learn activities in the area. Activities such as Boy Scouts & Alter boys etc. The woman across the street from us was a den mother for Girl Scouts; she was married and had 7 children ages ranging from 14 to 3yrs old. She had done this now for about 10yrs. Another woman who lived behind us was a den mother for the Cub Scouts. Their names were Eleanor & Margie. So time went on and Margie had an opening in her troop for a boy of 6yrs old. My mother came home and told me about it and I was excited! She went back to the meeting and was telling Margie to include me. Eleanor was quick to point out her children had been in both and if I wanted to eat over their house the older children would explain all about it. I agreed. I knew the children anyway so I was comfortable. The boys told me the meetings are OK, but the camping trips were the most fun. Then the girls told me how their mother was with the girls at a state park with 4 other GS leaders and the girls about 25 of Them had an arm wrestling tournament. They were all very surprised when their moms decided to join in too. Eleanor was the strongest and won all the other mothers. Little did I know that this would be the start of something bigger? I joined Cub Scouts and did not like it much. Now about 18mos later, the neighborhood had a midsummer party and the mothers all attended. There were games and food. The dads were organizing a tug of war with the odd Vs even numbered houses. Ladies Vs ladies and men Vs men. Well, my side of the street lost and some of the men wanted to see the individual moms do a test of strength. Eleanor's husband suggested Arm wrestling due to the fact his wife is always mentioning she won all those den mothers before. The rules were simple double elimination. The women were all in there late 30’s to early 40’s at the time so most were game. Only 5 of the ladies were willing to do it. Eleanor of course, Margie, Agnes, Marion, and my mother. The heights weights and ages were somewhat the same. First was Margie Vs my mother. Both women liked each other so they sat at a wooden table and did it right handed. Margie was 5’8 about 160 and my mother was 5’ 3" and 140. They stayed up centered for a while and my mothers wrist began to go down slowly, smiling Margie saw my mommy bite her lip and wince but Margie was too strong. Next was Agnes Vs Eleanor and this was also lob sided Eleanor is 5’5’" about 135 and Agnes is 5’10’ and 145. They sat and Agnes was trying to look calm but Eleanor was not budging. So Agnes’ face got red and her eyes winced, this got Eleanor's wrist to go back a little. The look Eleanor made was vivid she began to tighten her jaw and lean however her wrist kept descending. She was now very red and gritting her teeth and she couldn't stop Agnes who was also making a straining clinched teeth and curled back lips. Eleanor was losing for the first time. Agnes won painfully slow! Now Margie and Marion did it they were the same height and weight and age. Tall about 165lbs. You would think it would be equal it wasn't Margie won effortlessly. Now Agnes and Marion were the same, tall a 165 to 145. Marion lost being the first to get eliminated! Margie wanted the next one she said all these years she heard how strong Eleanor was and was about to challenge her when Agnes said you have to beat me first. Margie had a lot of trouble with Agnes and it was ruled a deadlock 2 full minutes of back and forth their faces were red and Margie now was very vividly sucking her lips! Agnes was losing longer and she was very red and showing her big even teeth losing now having a real hard time keeping her wrist about half way down. The only ladies that haven't met were Eleanor and my mother. They were 42yrs old. Their weights were about the same, but my Mom is 5’3" and Eleanor is 5’5". They sat and linked up thumbs and looked to the timer and they started. Immediately Eleanor was leaning getting my moms wrist back. My Mom then used her weight to get it back. Now Eleanor wanted this due to her previous loss. She began to wince and grimace. My Mom was now losing again and her face was red and her mouth very tight. Seemingly stuck Eleanor began to wince vividly and her red face trembled, lips peeled back to gritting teeth! Mom was holding her but, it was really taking its toll, her tight lips slowly peeling she began gritting her teeth vividly and wincing also. Eleanor's face was almost tearing when my mother made her hand touch the interlocking left hands. Both women were making the same faces, but my Mom won. Unfortunately my Mom lost slowly to Agnes in a heated struggle Agnes is a lot taller but had visible trouble finishing my Moms wrist. She didn't expect such a grueling match. My Mom has never lost after that and I always remember how she made that Eleanor eat her words This is my recollection of this I was only 7-8yrs old. It has been 38yrs since that summer and Marion is the only one I see now and she says "your mother put that braggart in her place" Unfortunately, recently Marion was diagnosed with the big "C". My mother died 11yrs ago. Margie died in 1973. Agnes & Eleanor are still watch wearers & healthy. Only the good die young!
